Medical Administration is a little more specialized than general Office Administration but you’re on the right track. You may start out with something as an assistant position such as Administrative Assistant Executive Assistant but if you have a degree you will be able to move up within the organization. Do some searches for “Office Administration” on Monster.com, Indeed.com, or simplyhired.com and see what’s available. This will give you a general idea.
Another good place to look is working directly for a city. Many people that work for cities start out working in the office and then move up working directly for one of the departments such as Human Resources, Community Services, etc. Some cities post on their website “Job Class Specifications” so you can see what is required for experience and to do the job. Below is a link to the Job Classes page for West Covina California. You can see all of the job descriptions. The other link goes to some of the bigger cities across the country with links directly to each city’s Human Resources Department job listings.
Cities are a good place to work because they’re stable, have good benefits, pensions, and many have flex-time schedules so you might only work 4 days a week for 10 hours instead of 5 days for 8 hours. They have a lot of office administration work too.

Taken in September 2007, this is my toy collection in my office at the Kresge Library. OK…maybe it does not add to the professional appearance of the office, but it sure adds color and conversation!
