Question: What should you study if you want to become an Office Assistant?
I would really like to be an office assistant since I love doing office work, running errands, etc. I wanted to know what you would have to study in college to become one. I’m probably going to major in Business and minor in English Lit.

I found a lot of answers regarding being assistants for law firms and such. Is there a reason why that is so popular?

What type of companies would need office assistants? I would like to work for a slightly bigger one, not the ones with 4 people and they all wear t-shirts to work.

You don’t need to go to college to be an office assistant, since they don’t really have any skills, as long as you are friendly and do what you are told you will be fine. Since you are in college, however, you might try to obtain an internship, which could lead to a permanent placement at a business of your choosing. All types of companies need office assistants, pretty much any company that has offices. Just look at some office building to see what companies are in it and boom, there’s your job opportunity.

Computer stuff, computer stuff, computer stuff. The more you can help your boss download files/figure out why he can’t access TMZ or YouTube, the more helpful you will be.

Agree with, “computer stuff, computer stuff!”

In my company, the Office Assistants — who are highly valued, and I know I couldn’t be a successful Vice President without mine — need terrific organizing skills, excellent “people” skills, a good understanding of how businesses function, and good writing/editing skills.

Yes, take English classes — including writing, and editing, if you can. Take one or more time management classes; find something that sounds like, “Dealing With Difficult People,” and get a job on campus in your Admissions Office, or something where you can get experience before you hit the job market.

Anyone who uses Microsoft Word can empathize with the people in this video who are constantly tormented by Clippy. Not mine. I found it and thought it was funny so I decided to share. No copyright infringement intended.
