Good video!Karoshi! – Gameplay

This is “Karoshi!”, a multiplayer strategy game in the style of “Dungeon Keeper”, made with Unity3D. Build an office, recruit employees, and destroy the desk of the adversary company boss with your mobbers and vandals! “Karoshi!” was made in 1.5 months as an entry for a small competition on the German game development forum ZFX. Possible themes were “bureaucracy”, “chocolate”, “storm” and “oil”, and we picked the first two. Thus, employees which were attacked by interns or mobbers have to heal themselves on vending machines with chocolate bars. @Evilhamster95 Whatever. :)

@sonenhals The iPhone versions are called Mr. Karoshi, the original Pc versions are called Karoshi. The game is about working really hard to die which fits the name.

@Evilhamster95 We don’t steal titles. We came up with it on our own. (“Karoshi” is the Japanese name of a cause of death, which BTW fits on our game far better, hehe. The Karoshi platformer should be called Seppuku, because it really is a game about suicide and not about work.) ;)
On the screenshots of Karoshi on the iTunes App Store there always is a “Mr. Karoshi” as title, dunno why. The same with the trailer on the website. Perhaps it’s because it’s titled “Mr. Karoshi”?

@sonenhals Uh.. The name of that game isn’t Mr. Karoshi, iit’s just Karoshi. So the only difference is the exclamation mark. Don’t steal titles.

@Evilhamster95 As I said, it’s out for seven months – and you’re the first to mention “Mr. Karoshi” (or “Karoshi Suicide Salaryman”). As you see, the name isn’t even exactly the same.
So, I don’t think there will be much confusion. I mean, this is a realtime multiplayer strategy game – the other is a platformer.

@sonenhals Okay, but get ready for some confusion.

@Evilhamster95 Well, too late. It’s “Karoshi!” for us since October 2010 …

You probably shouldn’t call it Karoshi. It’s the name of a really well-known series of platformer games.

@sechstasinn Thank you very, very much, matt! :-)
But as this is a contest version, the game is nothing I’d seriously consider for real commercial use. Unfortunately, I’d have to rewrite most of it from scratch to make it bug-free (and it really is bug-ridden IMHO) – and we don’t have time for that right now. On ther other side, we both like the idea and gameplay very much and will not get it out of our minds completely.

This work is amazing in so many different ways. It’s an original game idea implemented in a beautifully constructed and detailled world. I really would love to see that as a Facebook application; I think this could go viral very quickly. Since you guys have founded a business, you should consider trying that and selling advertisement space (e.g. posters on the wall or sponsored machines). (matt)
