Q&A: Probation Officer?
my friend is on probation and it seems that his probation officer is trying to get him to screw up so he can send him to prison. The officer makes all these random rules (most of them prohibiting him from going to certain places for no reason-hes never done anything to get banned from these places yet he is still not allowed to go at all-usually towns/cities). So my question is, is there something that he can do about this? Like get a new one or something? Any help would be appreciated.

he can appeal to the probabtion board and request change but find out first without telling them his name. If he does not get a switch then he will be stuck with the same one and they will know he complained. It might be better to just stick it though. Or if he makes up something outrageous he can get another PO

unfortunately, there isnt really much you can do, except hope that that p.o. gets too many clients and has to give them up to another p.o. thats the only way i have ever heard of people switchin parole officers..

i was on probation for 2 years and i constantly got random drug tests ( each gets pricey), passing every single one, and he still continued to send me letters in the mail hoping that i f*d up and test positive.. they want you to screw up so they can keep you longer and get more money out of you. contrary to what they say, the last thing they are there to do is help you. they just try to milk as much money as they can before you are set free.

my only advice is to follow his rules and dont f* up. i was on probation for 2 years, didnt learn a thing from it. all i had to do was follow his stupid rules.

The most probable reason for restricting his movement(s) to different towns/cities and the like could be the victims of his crimes may be in that area.

Could be a similarity with his crime could be in the area as well.

For instance, if he was arrested previously for a crime after he visited a Beer Garden at a Festival of some sort, and there is to be a similar festival at that location, prior planning prevents poor performance.

That is about as close as I can get without knowing the particulars involved (crime, background, propensity to recommit, etc.).

Follow the rules and do his time on probation. You did not say what places ?? I am sure if you listed them, it would be obvioius

First of all , you should mention the nature of the crime he did to get on probation to begin with.

Secondly yes he can request a new officer , but first if I was him I would refer to my probation agreement for what I can and can not do. When in doubt , he can always ask for a written copy of what he can and can not do.

Thirdly , sad but true depending on what he did and the circumstances …they can tell him what he can and can not do , where he can and can not go , and even if he can leave the county.

Tell him to try that stuff and if he still isn’t happy with his probation officer , to file a complaint. And talk to his probation officers supervisor.

And to get his stuff together. He should count himself lucky they slapped him on the wrist with probation , he could be in prison singing with 50 other men in the shower.

If he gets his stuff together , and follows their rules , they will pat him on the back eventually and tell him to come to a class to put him over to MMP Status , where he would only have to face them 2 to 4 times a year, and do monthly reports.

Fact of the matter is , the more he cooperates with his probation officer the easier life will be for him. Tell him to use his time on papers to make a better life for himself. Get an education , better paying job etc.
