Is it worth downloading, and will it work well with a Gates mobile?

I like it a lot and use it as my Office application. It’s much better than paying hundreds of dollars for Microsoft Office. The only downside to OpenOffice is that it is really slow and bloated because it renders its own widgets and uses Java in some places (though Java can be disabled as it’s mostly used for the database application).

It is excellent software. Almost as good as MSOffice for word processing and spreadsheets. The presentation software is good, but I can’t find viewer software, so I’m nervous about off site compatibility. Database program is so-so. It has an outstanding vector drawing program. I recommend downloading it. I’m not sure if it will run on a mobile operating system. Handhelds aren’t my forte.

I like Open Office and use it quite frequently. The only thing I would like them to add to the Open Office Suite would be something like Microsoft Project.

Yes, it’s worth downloading, although it’s sometimes distributed free with magazines CD’s.
Basically, it’s down to OpenOffice vs Microsoft Office, so…

Pro’s: It’s free, and fairly similar to MS Office.
OpenOffice is Opensource, that is, it conforms to standards in a way that Office is only starting to.
It also exports to PDF.

Con’s: A small learning curve, and it’s not as well integrated, with itself or with Windows.
Once you move away from the core equivalents (Word, Excel etc), the difference becomes more evident – but how much do you need SharePoint?

I’m guessing that by “Gates mobile” you mean Windows Mobile?
Surprisingly, not much info on this for a couple of years. Microsoft seem to have this sewn up.
